Zula M. Hewitt, 83, of Suffolk, VA and former longtime resident of Portsmouth, VA passed away March 24, 2011 in her home. She was born in East Lake, NC the daughter of the late Mamie Crain Twiford and Lundy Twiford. She was predeceased by her husband, Rev. Benjamin F. Hewitt. In her earlier years Zula owned and operated Zuma's Beauty Shop in Portsmouth and was also a homemaker. She was a member of Pentecostal Missionary Holiness Church in Chesapeake, VA
Zula is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Thelma and Danny Morton of Portsmouth, VA, Karen and Russell Houston of Chesapeake, VA, Zelda and Larry Babb of Suffolk, VA; 7 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 1 step great grandchild; 2 sisters; 1brother; numerous nieces and nephews; and great granddog, "Diggy".
A funeral service will be held Saturday March 26, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA with Rev. Anthony Ralph officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation Friday night from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
