Our country lost a hero when CDR William "Sparky" Shumadine passed away on August 19 ^th , 2018, in his home in Suffolk, VA.  He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of more than 51 years – Judy H. Shumadine.  He was the devoted father of John (Christie) and Jeff (Kim) Shumadine, and Dori (Mike) Hartman, and cherished grandfather of Justin, Steven, Michael John, Michael William, Caitlyn, Alli, Nate, and Evie; brother of Tom Shumadine and Ann Ballard.  Sparky is fondly remembered as a loving father, proud patriot, caring neighbor, crossword fanatic, Swiftee, nature enthusiast, and US Navy veteran.

Services will be held on Saturday, August 25 ^th at 11:00 a.m. at West End Baptist Church, 105 St. James Ave., Suffolk, VA 23434.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.   The family would like to give special thanks to Cherie Rice and the caring staff at Kindred Hospice.  Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
