William Raleigh King, 91, of Windsor, VA, died May 5, 2007. He was a native of Gates County, North Carolina and the son of the late Horace and Virgie Brown King.
He was also predeceased in death by his first wife, Charlotte Roberts King and a sister, Helen King Blair.
Mr. King received his undergraduate degree from Elon University and his graduate degree from East Carolina and Appalachian State University. He served as principal at Rich Square High School in Northampton County, NC for twenty-six years and as the Assistant Superintendent for the last ten years before his retirement.
Mr. King was a member of the Gatesville Masonic Lodge No. 126 and the Drum Hill Hunt Club. He served ten years as Chairman of the Board of Elections in Gates County, NC., was a member of the Gates County Historical Society, the Gates Ruritan Club and a past member of the Louise Obici Memorial Volunteers.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mildred Gwaltney King; two sons, Daniel C. King and Dr. Steve A. Gwaltney; a daughter, Joyce G. Moore and her husband Jackie; nine grandchildren, Matthew, Charlotte, Savanna, Jason and wife Whitney, Justin, Steve, Jr., Ryland, Bremer and Madison; one great grandson, Jackson; a niece, Susan Blair Wetter and a nephew, Charles D. Blair, Jr.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 8, at 2:00 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Burns and Rev. Billy Presley officiating. Burial, with Masonic Rites, will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetary. The family will be at their residence.
