William Nathaniel "Nathan" Dawson, 38, passed away unexpectedly in Hampton, VA in the afternoon of June 18, 2021.
Born Deaf in Portsmouth, VA, Nathan was accustomed to the beauty in life that he could see, yet unknowing to the sounds and noises happening around him. Despite the lack of hearing, he was a very gentle and loving person to all who knew him. He grew up enjoying a close family relationship with his parents and his sister, Naomi. Nathan attended the Willie Ross School for the Deaf in Long Meadow, MA and then later graduated from the American School for the Deaf in Hartford, CT.
When Nathan was in his mid 20's, he experienced tremendous loss with the unexpected and early deaths of his father, Harold Dawson, sister, Naomi Dawson, and grandfather, William Craig Sr. in a truly short time span. Although Nathan was young, he never fully recovered from these heartbreaks and collective loss.
Nathan found work locally in retail stores, performing shelf stocking and receiving goods. Nathan's goals were always in search of totally independent living. That search for a young Deaf man can be tough with vices, and for Nathan, it often was. Despite all, you could always find Nathan happy, smiling, and loving. In turn, he always brought a smile to our faces!
Nathan was a Baptist Christian, who dearly loved the Lord and enjoyed attending church with his mother, Cathy, who being an American Sign Language Interpreter, interpreted for him. Nathan leaves behind his mother, Cathy Bower; stepfather, Tony Bower; sister in love, Jenna Bower; grandmother, Brenda Joyce Craig; aunt, Cindy Jayne; uncles, Paul Jayne and William Craig Jr.; brother and sister in love, Ryan and Jennifer Labbe; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Nathan, we know you are in Heaven and can finally hear your Heavenly Father and family voices. We love you and will miss you!
