William Joseph Herchenroder, Jr., 90, passed away peacefully, February 16, 2017 in Suffolk, VA.  He was born January 22, 1927 in St. Albans, NY, the son of the late William J. Herchenroder, Sr. and Helen K. Herchenroder. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Irene A. Herchenroder in 2009, having enjoyed 60 years of marriage. Together they raised their family in Farmingdale, NY. In retirement they resided in Ormond Beach, FL for many years. William moved to Virginia in 2010.

He was a United States Navy veteran having served during WWII.  William later went on to work and retire from the New York Telephone Company. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and Elks Lodge. A model railroad enthusiast, he was a member of the Flagler Model Railroad Club.

In addition to his wife, William was predeceased by his sisters, Clare and Helen. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Diane Herchenroder, Colebrook, NH, Keith and Susan Herchenroder, Chesapeake, VA, Jeffrey Herchenroder and Linda Andersen, Cambridge, NY; grandchildren, Lee, Ian, Brad, Anna, Janna and Jesse; and great grandchild, Carmen.
