William
"Billy" Elbert Goodwin, 80, passed away October 5, 2018. He was born in Chowan County, NC the son of the late Elbert John (Ellie) Goodwin and Elsie Nixon Goodwin. He was predeceased by his brother, Carroll Goodwin; half-sister, Edith Goodwin; and son-in-law, Charlie William Walston. He retired as the former owner of Suffolk Sanitary Supply Co., Inc., a business he grew exponentially
through hard work, business acumen and dedication to quality customer service. He served the Lord gladly at Wilroy Baptist Church where he was a charter member and served as both Lifetime Deacon and as the Sunday School Secretary. He was also a past member of Magnolia Ruritan Club and past Lt.Governor and Governor of Ruritan Zone 1 Holland District. He was a former Board Member of the Citizens National Bank.
Billy is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nellie Lassiter Goodwin; daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene Gordon (Vince), Marianne Walston, Janet Shinsky (Walt); son and daughter-in-law, William "Billy" Carroll Goodwin (Amanda); grandchildren, Chase, Stephanie, Kristin, William , Matthew, Jackson, Joshua, and Anna; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charlie and Aretta Lassiter, Willie and Virginia Kight, and Dallas and Mary Bunch; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Wilroy Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Rawls officiating. Burial will follow at Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation Monday night from 7-8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wilroy Baptist Church. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com .
