Walter Lawrence Fender, Sr., 65, of Suffolk, VA passed away October 13, 2009. He was born in Lumberton, NC the son of the late Hattie Waters Fender and Lennie Fender, Sr. He was a superintendent for W3 Marine. Walter was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He was a former member of the Western Branch Bowling League.

Walter is survived by his wife of 44 years, Erma Delores Gurganious Fender of Suffolk, VA; daughter, Hattie Maria Fender Day and husband, Lorne of Oakdale, CT; sons, Walter Lawrence Fender, Jr. of Jarrett, VA and John J. Fender and wife Maureen of Chesapeake, VA; foster children, Robbie Lee Griswold and husband, Richard of Windsor, VA, Minnie Spivey and her husband, Jerry of Leland, NC; grandchildren, Mark, Heather, Justin, Walter III, Logan, Laura, Jimmie, Charlotte, Raymond, and Marsha; 7 great grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Woodcock of Wilmington, NC and Peggy Meeks of Currie, NC; brother, Charles Fender of VA.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, October 16, 2009 at 6 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA with Rev. David Blevins officiating. Friends may also join the family following the service at the funeral home for a time of visitation and other times at the residence.
