Wai-Hong Kwong, M.D., 94, passed away April 21, 2024.  He was born in Toi Shan, Kwangtung, China, the son of the late Yun Choi Li and Man Hang Kwong. He is predeceased by Jane, his wife of 57 years, two brothers and two sisters. Dr. Kwong earned his medical degree in 1957 from Peiping Union Medical College in Beijing, China. He immigrated to the United States in 1966 and practiced Anesthesiology at Louise Obici Memorial Hospital until his retirement in 1985. This was followed by practicing Acupuncture in his private medical clinic in Portsmouth, VA.   Dr. Kwong practiced his deep Christian faith as a 51 year member of Providence United Methodist Church in Suffolk, VA .  He was a strong supporter of the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia, and an active alumnus of Pui Ching Middle School in Hong Kong.  He enjoyed classical music, particularly the violin, and had a love of travel.

Dr. Kwong  is survived by his daughter, Lillian Kwong; sons, Shun Kwong (Laura), Mon Kwong, Peter Kwong (Marcy); grandchildren, Jason, Anna, Isaac, and Laine; and brother, Wai-Man Kwong.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Providence United Methodist Church with Pastor Lisa Meyers officiating. Burial will follow at Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation one hour prior to the service from 1-2:00 pm at the church. Visitation will also be held from 5-7:00 pm, Friday, April 26, 2024 at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Providence United Methodist Church.
