Virginia Lee Pearce, 75, of Suffolk, VA passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 in her home. She was born on December 10, 1934 to the late Robert Linwood and Clara Johnson Pearce at Lakeview Hospital in Suffolk, VA.

She graduated in 1953 from Holland High School and went on to Longwood to get her teaching degree. She later attended Gallaudet University and received her Masters Degree in deaf education. She taught students in Virginia, Idaho, North Carolina, and Florida where she retired from teaching in 1984. She never left the field of education after taking some courses at Paul D. Camp. She went to work there as a secretary and then on to Mt. Empire Community College in Big Stone Gap, VA. She finally retired in 1998 and lived in Johnson City, Tenn., until she returned home to Suffolk in 2004 to be with her family and friends. She accomplished a lot of things in her lifetime. She traveled all over the world. She wasn't just a teacher she was a missionary, Sunday School teacher, pianist at Holland Baptist Church. She loved animals, reading, and watching sports.

Virginia is survived by her sister, Linn Pearce Kincaid of Suffolk, two nephews, James (Jamie) Kincaid and Robert (Robie) Kincaid both of Suffolk, a niece, Anna K. McClung and her husband Willis.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens with Chaplain Dick Dinges officiating. Friends may join the family Monday night from 7-8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA and other times at the residence.
