Verda Bee Allcorn, 88, went to be with the Lord August 7, 2007 at Norfolk General Hospital. She was born a coal miner's daughter in Gowen, OK. As a young woman she was a runway model, secretary to the French Consul, Virgin Islands and raised three children while her husband served through three wars. She went on to become a skilled seamstress and tailor, artist, nationally certified flower show judge and prolific writer of letters. She was an accomplished artist able to work in several mediums, including fabrics, oils, and flower arranging. Her stories and hand made greeting cards from recycled paper products were a delight to family and friends all across the U.S. Verda was a member of St. John's Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, past member of Cavalier Garden Club and National Garden Club Master Flower Show Judge Emeritus.
She is survived by her children Judith E. Howard, Patricia A. De Vinney and Emmett Dew Allcorn, III; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren; brother, Elwyn L. Mixon, Jr. and sister, Eleanor Weir.
A public memorial service will be held at St. John's Baptist Church, 2300 Holland Road, Virginia Beach, VA at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 11, followed by a reception. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery with her late husband, MSGT Emmett Dew Allcorn, Jr.,USMC. Condolences may be registered at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
