Thomas Louis Cross, a beloved husband, father, and dedicated community member, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, in Norfolk, Virginia. Born on June 23, 1946, in Suffolk, Virginia, Thomas lived a life marked by service, hard work, and devotion to his family and community. He was 80 years old at the time of his passing. 

Thomas began his career at the Newport News Shipyard, where he honed his skills and work ethic before moving on to Union Camp. Ultimately, he found his true calling as a carpenter in the construction industry, from which he retired after many years of dedicated service. His life was also marked by a deep commitment to his faith and community. Thomas was a longstanding member of CrossPointe Church, where his presence will be dearly missed. He was a past Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop #37 in Carrsville, imparting his wisdom and guidance to many young men. He helped coach his son’s teeball team all the way to pony league. He was a member of Bethlehem Ruritan Club for numerous years. A passionate outdoorsman, Thomas was a dedicated member of the Triangle Hunt Club, serving as Hunt Master for 25 years. 

Thomas honorably served his country as a helicopter gunner in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, a testament to his courage and patriotism. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, John "J.T." Thomas Cross and Dorothy Hines Cross, as well as his siblings, Ray Cross, Jimmy Cross, and Jean Walker. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Betty Louise Cross; his cherished son, James "Jamie" Thomas Cross; his devoted sisters, Mary Baker and Gracie Ann Harrell; and numerous nieces and nephews who will fondly remember him. 

A funeral service to honor Thomas's life will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 11 a.m. at CrossPointe Church, with Pastor David Sexton officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to CrossPointe Church.
