Obituary

Thomas Lewis Carr, age 96, of Suffolk, VA, went to be with the Lord on March 18, 2026. "Tom" was predeceased by his parents J. Alfred Carr, Sr. and Florine Adell "Dollie" Spivey Carr. The youngest of 8 children, he is also predeceased by his 7 siblings: Lois White, Edna Carr, James A. Carr, Jr., Marjorie Herlich, Kathryn Shifflett, Bernice Tripp, and Clifton Carr.

Tom was stationed in Germany during his service in the United States Army as a Sergeant from 1951 to 1953. Shortly after his return home, he was introduced to his wife of 70 years on a blind date at a Louis Armstrong concert. He grew up on a farm where his Dad kept him busy fixing equipment. This led to a lifelong career as a talented and skilled mechanic. He worked at Clark Andrews Motor Company in Suffolk, followed by the Suffolk Equipment International dealership, and later retired after 33 years of employment at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company as a First-Class Mechanic in the Brass Gallery and Fabrication. Tom attended Holland Baptist Church in Suffolk as a cradle roll member in childhood, and later during retirement life; in-between, he held membership many years at Jackson Memorial Baptist Church in Chesapeake. He served faithfully at both churches as a Deacon and in various other positions including RA's and youth leadership roles, and assisted with driving the church bus and van. He also served in the community as a Boy Scout leader. Tom thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends playing cards, dancing with his sweetheart, eating out, and travelling. He possessed a genuine interest and care for people that created new friendships where ever he went. Thomas Lewis Carr will be remembered for his steadfast love for his family, his unwavering work ethic, and his enduring faith. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and integrity.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife - Betty Pearce Carr, and children: Thomas G. Carr (Melissa), Michael L. Carr, Bonnie C. Ellis (Mark). Grandchildren: Robert Carr (Amanda), Richard Carr, Meredith Flory (Reese), Bryan Carr, Michael Connolly Jr., Kellie Post (Donald), and Kyle Ellis. His legacy continues through his cherished great-grandchildren: Thompson, Olivia, Delilah, Everett, and Daniel. He is also remembered fondly by numerous nieces and nephews, and his dear friend of over 90 years (since 1st grade) Hugh A. West.

A funeral service to honor Thomas's life will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 12 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 3515 Robs Dr, Suffolk, VA with Rev. Michael D.
