Thomas Lewis Baines, 82, passed away November 24, 2025.  He was born in Nansemond County, VA the son of the late Shirley McClenny Baines and Thelma Blanchard Baines. He was predeceased by his wife, Carrie Mathias "June Bug" Baines and sisters, Martha Ann Hill and Geraldine Baines Speight. Tommy retired from the public works department for the City of Suffolk.  He also worked at the Suffolk Golf Course. Tommy was a member of Whaleyville United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees, Church Council, sang in the church choir, was a liturgist, usher, and acolyte. He also gave the message one Sunday, donated many books and Bibles to the church library.  He loved picnics and parties hosted by the church, especially the Angel Tree Christmas parties.

Tommy is survived by his nephew and wife, Robert Benjamin and Bonnie West Speight; great nieces and their husbands, Pamela S. and John Merrick, Nicole S. and Christopher Matzen; great-great-nieces and nephews, Robert A. Merrick, Emma M. Matzen, Corbin J. Matzen, Tolson S. Merrick, and Jolie W. Matzen.

A graveside service will be held Friday, November 28, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Parker United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Tim Rawls officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Whaleyville United Methodist Church.  Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
