Thomas Lee Atkins, 86, passed away February 5, 2024. He was born in Surry County, Virginia the son of the late Eddie Thomas Atkins and Eleanora Wells Atkins. He was predeceased by his first wife, Betty Sightler Atkins; and his sisters, Margaret A. Harris and Nora M. Adkins. Thomas was a United States Marine Corps veteran. After his time in service, he began working for Union Camp and retired as the Maintenance Coordinator for International Paper. He was a member of Suffolk Christian Church and sang in the choir. He was also a member of Pon's Hunt Club, Hampton Roads RC Club, and was a lifetime member of the AMA.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Grace Garner Atkins; son, Eddie T. Atkins (Barbara); step children, Alan Garner (Lynn), Steve Garner (Niecie), and Mark Garner (Cindy); grandchildren, Donijo Atkins (Jordan), and Joseph Thomas Atkins (Sarah); numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 8, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Michael D. Halley officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation Wednesday night from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Emily Green Shores Assisted Living at 500 Westmoreland Ave., Portsmouth, VA 23707 with In Memory of Thomas Atkins in the memo line.
