Sylvia Anne Mitchell Schlaffer, 78, passed away June 19, 2014. She was born in Suffolk, VA the daughter of the late Charles E. and Delta W. Mitchell. She was predeceased by her husband, William J. Schlaffer and her son, Billy W. Branch.
Sylvia is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia A. Matthews (Charles), Allison K. Wood (Jim); sons and daughters-in-law, Frederick S. Matthews (Angela), Delray Matthews (Marie); grandchildren, Kelly, Douglas, Krissy, Robbie, Benjamin, Abigail, and Ashley; great grandchildren, Blake, Madison, and Nadia; sisters and brothers-in-law, Angeline Hofman (Pete), Jean Saghy (Emory), and Gloria Barnette; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Monday, June 23, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory with retired Lt. Colonel Angeline Hofman officiating. Burial will follow at Nansemond Suffolk Cemetery. Friends may join the family Sunday afternoon for a time of visitation from 4-5 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the residence of Cindy and Charles Matthews.
