June 11, 1970 – December 16, 2018
Stephanie McGinnis Cornette, 48, went home on December 16, 2018. She was born in Chula Vista, CA but raised in Virginia Beach before calling Suffolk her home. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Stephen Jack McGinnis and Deanna McGinnis. She was predeceased by her sister, Marcy M. Sapienza. Over the years Stephanie worked as a teacher for Salem High School, Suffolk Christian Academy, Stonebridge Academy, and even homeschooled. She was a member of River of Life Baptist Church in Franklin, VA and a long-time member of Southside Baptist Church in Suffolk, VA. She had a serving heart and served on mission trips locally and abroad. She was integral in the starting of the American Heritage Girl Troop VA 1412 in Suffolk, VA.
Stephanie is survived by her husband of 23 years, R. Scott Cornette; children, Michael Scott, Laura Ann, and Rachel Mae; siblings, Jennifer McGinnis Thompson (Willard), Daniel F. McGinnis (Sabine), Belen M. Bruno, Kacy McGinnis, and Sarah McGinnis, her stepmother Kaye McGinnis, and her stepsisters Joy Kelly (Dan), Lynnett Schindler (Charlie), Michelle Thompson, her father-in-law Billy Green, her sister-in-law Dawn Maus (Brian), and all of her nieces and nephews; Matthew Thompson; Max and Maggie Kelly; Hannah, Charlie, Joshua and Abigail Schindler; Truman and Pippa Thompson; and David Beamon.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Southside Baptist Church with Chaplain Jan Dickens officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family Friday night for a time of visitation from 6-8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory. Memorial donations may be made to the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center, DUMC 3624, Durham, NC 27710. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com .
