Shirley Matthews Parker, 68, of Pendleton, NC passed away on March 9, 2010. A native of Suffolk, VA she was the daughter of the later Bythel L. Matthews and Carrie Doughtie Matthews. She was also predeceased by a brother, A. Fred Matthews. Shirley worked in ARAMARK at Chowan University and was a member of the Salvation Army Church.

She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Edward Lee Parker of Pendleton, NC; daughters, Carrie Brown of Suffolk and Rachel Fiedler of Virginia Beach; two step daughters, Penny Parker of NC and Mary A. Hernandez of FL; two step sons, Ronald Parker of NC and William Parker of NC; 15 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one sister, Irene Williamson of South Boston, VA; three brothers, J. B. Matthews of Suffolk, James Allen Matthews of Fredericksburg and Leslie Matthews of Portsmouth.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 12, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk with Major Calvin Clatterbuck officiating. Burial will follow at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Friends may join the family on Thursday evening from 7 – 8 pm at the funeral home for visitation.
