Obituary

Sara Elizabeth Carr Carter, 80, of Franklin, VA died April 19, 2009 at Southampton Memorial Hospital. Born July 27, 1928 in Suffolk, VA and a long time Franklin resident, she was co-owner of Carter Furniture Store. She was a member of Franklin Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Lennie Jep Carr and Lillie Mae Hines Carr. She was predeceased by sisters, Lucille Carr Daughtrey and Nellie Carr White and brother, Lennie J. Carr, Jr.

Survived by her husband of 60 years, Thomas F. Carter, Jr. of Franklin. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Thomas F. Carter, III and Patricia J. Floyd of Newport News; Dana C. Rountree and husband, William H. Rountree, Jr., Karen C. Dunn of Suffolk, and Brett S. Carter and wife, Michele O. Carter all from Suffolk, and Julie C. Griggs, and husband, John W. Griggs, Jr. of Franklin.

Grandchildren include Brandie C. Zelaya, Kristie R. Dailey, W. Jason Rountree, B. Scott Carter, Jr., Matthew G. Dunn, Alison N. Carter, Alisa M. Dunn, John W. Carter, Melissa A. Dunn, Caitlin D. Carter and Evan W. Griggs; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Emma C. Griggs and husband, Joseph of Suffolk, VA and Myrtle C. Ingvaldsen and husband, Oswald of Virginia Beach; sister-in-law, Rena G. Carr of Suffolk, and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her large family and many friends.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Michael Ponder and the staff of Southampton Memorial Hospital for their loving care of our Mother.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA 23434 and at other times at the residence at Homestead Lane. A funeral will be conducted at 4:00 pm Wednesday at Parr Funeral Home. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk, VA.
