Sandra Lynn Doggett Crocker, 65, of Central Hill, Isle of Wight County, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011 at Sentara Obici Hospital. A native of Isle of Wight County, Mrs. Crocker was born April 21, 1946 in Newport News. She graduated from Surry Academy in 1964, from Christopher Newport College with a bachelor's degree in English, and from the College of William & Mary with a master's degree in education. She retired after 40 years as an English grammar and literature teacher at Isle of Wight Academy. She was the school's forensics coach for several years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Gamma-Epsilon Chapter; was past president of the Association of Virginia Academies, was a member and past president of The Shakespeare Class of Smithfield, and former treasurer of the Isle of Wight County Museum Foundation. She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and was a Sunday School teacher of the Friendship Class and Ladies Bible Class. She was an avid reader, an outstanding cook, enjoyed crocheting and knitting, loved antiques and was an avid collector of vinegar cruets.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Peter Frank Crocker; her mother, Delilah Jones Doggett; a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth Doggett Judkins and Franck; a brother, E. Henry Doggett III all of Surry, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Everett H. Doggett Jr.
A funeral service will be held Friday, September 2, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Bethany United Methodist Church, 13717 Bethany Church Road, Smithfield, with the Rev. Lowell Petry and the Rev. Roger Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Central Hill Cemetery. Friends of the family will be received at the Crocker home on Central Hill Road.
