Samuel Kenneth Harrup, 97, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026. He was born in Boykins, Virginia to the late George Jackson Harrup and Divi Delone Joyner Harrup on June 3, 1928. He was also predeceased by his loving wife, Jean Holland Harrup.

Kenneth was the sixth of ten children in his family. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his nine siblings, Lewis Harrup, Mildred Baker, Doris Pope, Jack Harrup, William Harrup, Jessie Mae Pierce, David Harrup, Hyla Brinkley, and Phillip Harrup.

Kenneth learned how to farm as a young man with his dad. He joined the US Army in 1950 and proudly served as a medic in Korea during the Korean conflict. He said the other men in his unit called him "Doc" and he was treated well by everyone because they knew he would help them if they got hurt.

After returning home from Korea in 1952, Kenneth met Jean Holland and they married six months later. They were married for almost 70 years.

Kenneth retired from Newport News Shipbuilding after 32 years of service. After retirement, he enjoyed growing a large vegetable garden on his farm and doing part-time jobs around Suffolk. He also kept busy with church activities and the Holland Ruritan Club. He traveled to the mountains of Virginia frequently, where he had a small vacation house and many friends. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Kenneth is survived by his daughter and son in law, Nancy and David White; son and daughter in law, Kenny and Gretchen Harrup; granddaughters, Jennifer White and Rebecca Harrup, grandsons, Scott White and wife, Heather, and Kelyn Harrup; great granddaughters, Kourtney Adams, and Taylor, Hartley, Skylar and Sundee White; great great grandchildren , Mary, Embry, Samara and Dominic; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to thank Terri Baker, Vanessa Jones, and Tanika Mack for the excellent care they provided for dad over the past couple of years. The family would also like to thank Natalie and other nurses at Heartland Hospice for their guidance and support.
