Ryland "Jack" Jackson Riddick, 88, of Suffolk, VA passed away July 20, 2009. He was the son of the late, Maude S. and Willie E. Riddick. He was a United States Army veteran having served during WWII landing on Omaha Beach in Normandy. Jack served 3 campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe as a heavy machine gunner. He was assigned to the 119th Field Artillery, HQ Btry. 203rd Field Artillery. Jack later went on to retire as a supervisor for Planter's Peanut Company. He attended Suffolk Christian Church and First Baptist Church.
Jack is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce Baines Riddick of Suffolk, VA; sisters, Barbara R. Griffin of Suffolk, VA, Betty R. Holland and husband, Charlie of Boca Raton, FL; brother, Charlie Riddick and wife, Margaret of Suffolk, VA; brother-in-law, Rudolph Byrd of Suffolk, VA; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nancy and George White of Smithfield, VA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rufus A. Baines, Jr. and Lynne of Rhoadesville, VA; numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Friday, July 24, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA with Rev. Michael D. Halley officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family Thursday night at the funeral home from 7-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Suffolk Humane Society at P.O.
