Ruth Griggs Piland, 86, passed away September 7, 2015. She was born in Suffolk, VA the daughter of the late Clyde M. and Naomi E. Griggs. She was predeceased by her husband, William M. Piland, Sr. She formerly worked as a sales clerk for Leggett's Department Store. She was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church and the Taylor-Brittle Sunday School Class.

Ruth is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Gwendolyn Dare Johnson (Bruce), Ruth "Beth" Elizabeth Groh (James); son, William "Bill" Morrison Piland, Jr.; grandchildren, Mechele Cutchin, Melissa Griggs, Tiffany Patty, Jamie Groh, Aaron Justin Piland, Brandon Wade Piland; 7 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, P.B Piland, Jr. and wife, Janet Piland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Matt Winters and Rev. Robert Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery. Friends may join the family Wednesday night from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at her residence.
