Obituary

Roy Elbert Myane, 74, passed away on January 22, 2026. He was born in Suffolk, VA, the son of the late Elbert Bruce Myane and Inez Babb Myane. He was also predeceased by his brother, Bruce Wayne Myane.

Roy proudly grew up in the Eclipse community of Crittenden and spent his childhood on the waters of Chuckatuck Creek, where he cherished hunting, fishing, and oyster farming. These early experiences fostered his deep connection to nature and outdoor life; passions he carried throughout his years. Roy was a highly respected hunting dog trainer, receiving numerous awards and accolades for his skill and dedication. He retired as a pipefitter from Norfolk Naval Shipyard in 2007 after a distinguished career as a crew leader, earning respect for his leadership and craftsmanship.

An enthusiast of Native American and early American history, Roy enjoyed researching and collecting unique artifacts from that time period, often sharing his knowledge and stories with friends and family. He was a proud member of the Zuni Hunt Club and found great fulfillment in educating young hunters, passing down his love for the outdoors and conservation. Roy also dedicated much of his time to Ducks Unlimited and the Wild Turkey Federation, especially through the JAKES (Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics, and Sportsmanship) program, inspiring a new generation of outdoor enthusiasts.

Roy is survived by his wife of 47 years, Debra Vincent Myane; daughters, Leslie Sitko (Edward) and Stephanie Furlough (Taylor); grandchildren, Lennox, Landry, and Lincoln; his sister-in-law, Judy Myane; niece, Kristy Myane Daniels; and great-nephew, Bryce Daniels. As well as his chosen family, Sterling Crocker (Jeanie), Shirlee Luter (Travis), and their boys TJ and Trent.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, with Rev. Tim Rawls officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Wild Turkey Federation JAKES program. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
