Obituary

Roy Gromlich, 90, departed this life on Oct. 25, 2007. He was born April 11, 1917 in Maplewood, PA to the late Clarence and Iantha Sloat Gromlich.

Roy retired as a mechanic from JC Vending in Trenton, NJ and was a member of Pearson Memorial United Methodist Church (White Horse). He enjoyed tinkering in his home garage on E. McGalliard Ave, teaching NRA Hunter Safety Classes, attending shooting matches, and fixing or making items for home or church.
Early 2001, Roy and wife Ann relocated to Virginia to be with family. Both were members of Trinity United Methodist Church in Smithfield. Roy often shared memories of World War II, his Purple Heart honor, and life pictures. He loved his dogs; big dogs (horses) and watching "the kids play on the ranch". He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and although greatly missed by all, now at peace after the struggle of advanced dementia.

Roy was preceded in death by his twin brother Ray, brothers Charles and Franklin; sisters Jennie Bell, Roberta Backos, Emma Black; and his wife Anne Chomyn Gromlich.

Surviving family members include sons, Roy J. (Janna) Gromlich of Harrisburg, PA; Richard C. ('Marty') Gromlich of Smithfield, VA; grandsons, Christopher (Angie) of Smithfield, VA, Justin (Kim) of Dendron, VA; great-grandchildren, Savanna (11), Christopher Jr, (4), Justin Jr; (2); sister Alberta Siepiela of Leesburg, FL and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the nurses, doctors, and staff at Hampton Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center Palliative Care who have assisted Roy since Sept. 2007; the (VA) Home Base Primary Care Team; Jackie Swan and Lee Hughes who provided home care.

A graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 29, 2007, at St. Luke's Memorial Park in Smithfield, with Rev. Will Montgomery officiating. Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, VA. is serving the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Animal Control, PO Box 80, Isle of Wight, VA 23397. Condolences may be also registered at www.parrfuneralhome.com
