Roland Larry Carr, of Smithfield, was summoned home by his Lord and Savior on Friday September 27th, 2013. Roland died in peace in his home with his family at his bedside.


A native of Suffolk, he was a retired Norfolk Southern Railroad employee and a member of Wilroy Baptist Church. He was the son of the late David Henry Carr and Virginia Elizabeth Britt.

Survivors include 3 sons; Matthew Scott Carr and his fiancé Bobbi Gabler and her son Jacob all of Boca Raton, FL, Brian Carr of Smithfield and Daniel and his wife Melissa Carr of Elizabeth City, NC 2 sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara Anne and Francis J. Clements of Chuckatuck, Linda Elizabeth and Bobby Cash of Chattanooga, TN; and 9 grandchildren, Cameron, Adam, Matthew, Jacob, Hannah, Noah, Colin, Cassie-Mae and Caleb Carr.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 am at Wilroy Baptist Church by Roland's Pastor, Dr. Robert Carpenter. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens in Suffolk. The family will receive friends at Parr Funeral Home in Suffolk on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Wilroy Baptist Church, 306 Williams Rd.
