Obituary

Roger Dean Martin, 68, went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 21, 2025.  Roger was born in Portsmouth, VA the son of the late James Melvin Martin, Sr. and Alberta Clay Martin.  He is predeceased by sister, Kathy Martin Grier. Roger was a retired Lieutenant for the City of Portsmouth Fire Department. He was a member of the Hazmat Team and Maritime Emergency Response Team (MERT).  Roger was a member of Southside Baptist Church, 604 Hunt Club in Emporia and Community Hunt Club in Suffolk.  He was known for his talent in custom carpentry.

Roger is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linette Dail Martin; daughter and son-in-law, Julie Martin Wells (Christopher); grandsons, Jackson and Parker; son, Brian Hunter Martin; granddaughter, Claire; sister, Sharon Martin Hauser; brother, James Melvin Martin, Jr. (Charlotte) and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Monday, March 31, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Southside Baptist Church, 917 Carolina Road, Suffolk, VA 23434 with Pastor Mike Butler officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 30, 2025, from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, VA 23434. Interment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Boulevard, Norfolk, VA 23502 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southside Baptist Church Missions.
