Johnson
June 12, 1944 – January 31, 2018
Rev. Roger D. Johnson, 73, went to his Heavenly Home on January 31, 2018. He was born in Lionelli, KY (three months premature weighing only three pounds), son of the late Birthan Ray Johnson, Sr. and Sue Cleo Elkins Johnson. After studying at Moody Bible Institute he loved serving the Lord and was in ministry for 40 years in various churches. He was also owner and operator of Johnson Sign Company for 35 years. His most recent pastorate was at Central Hill Baptist Church in Windsor, VA. A loving compassionate pastor to those that he was blessed and honored to minister. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. He loved music especially Southern Gospel and Bluegrass. Roger enjoyed hunting with his sons and grandsons and was a lifetime member of the NRA. He loved to cook for family and friends and hosting their annual Pig Pickin.
Roger was a wonderful, kind, loving husband and father, and incredible Granddad and Great-granddad. He was predeceased by a son, Martin David Johnson and brother, Birthan Ray Johnson, Jr. He is survived by his loving, devoted wife, Bettye Sue Gabbert Johnson; his daughter and son-in-law, Angel and Lenny Willis; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Diane Johnson, Mark and Kirsten Johnson; grandchildren, Angela West, Jessica Todd, Ryan Johnson (Kimberlyn), Bobbi Bennett (Joseph), Aaron Johnson (Randi), Bridgette Raba (David), Paige Johnson, Kyle Matthews, Dylan Matthews, Michael Woodbury, Logan Willis, and Charles L. "Lee" Willis, III; great grandchildren, Alexus, Felisha, Kayla, Justin, Brandon, Lydia, June, Addison, Nicholas, Lillian, Rhett, and Grace; sisters, Sandra Morton (Hiriam), Sharon Wilson (Don); brother, Larry Vanover (Joann); numerous nieces and nephews; and former daughter-in-law, Cheri Johnson.
A funeral service will be held Monday, February 5, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Charles W. Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family for at time of visitation Sunday afternoon from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, American Diabetes Association, Parkinson's Foundation, Lewy Body Dementia Association, or the Gideon's International.
