Roger John Heins' Obituary
Roger John Heins, 74, died January 23, 2014. He was born on July 24, 1939 in Clara City, Minnesota to the late John and Amelia Heins.
He was a graduate of Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. After graduation, he served twenty one years in the United States Navy. Upon retirement he taught physics and earth science for Norfolk Public Schools. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church and Gideon's International.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jacquelyn Heins and their children, Anna McLeod (Jerry); and John Heins; special granddaughters, Kayla and Emily McLeod; sister, Carol Bonnema (Ken); brother, Dwight Heins (Cheryl); brothers-in-law, David (Tillie) and Don Rivenbark; sister-in-law, Joanne Willis; many nephews and nieces.
A celebration of his life will be held at Southside Baptist Church, 917 Carolina Rd., Suffolk, VA 23434 on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jerry McLeod and Rev. Robert Earl Thompson officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Veteran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Multiple System Atrophy Coalition, 8311 Brier Creek Pkwy., Suite 105-434, Raleigh, NC 27617 or Southside Baptist Church Building Fund. The family would like to give special thanks to his Sunday School Class, and the staff at Obici Hospital, Sentara Norfolk General, and Nansemond Pointe for their loving care.
