Obituary

Robert Archer Norfleet, 80, of Windsor, VA passed away August 1, 2009. He was born in Nansemond County, the son of the late Edla A. and Abram E. Norfleet, Sr. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. Robert was a farmer and retired as a mechanic from the City of Norfolk. He was a lifelong member of Western Branch Baptist Church and attended the Adult Men's Bible Class. He served as a Deacon, Trustee, and Chairman of the Ushers.

Robert was an honorary member of the Windsor Ruritan Club. He was a former member of the Kings Fork Ruritan Club where he served as Past President. He was a charter member of the "Meals on Wheels" Windsor Team and was a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society "Road to Recovery."

Robert is survived by his wife of 20 years, Virginia S. Norfleet of Windsor, VA; daughter, Cindy Norfleet of Suffolk, VA; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Larry Norfleet and Leta of Warm Springs, VA; step-daughter, Janet Joyner and husband, Jerry of Franklin, VA; step-sons, John Faris Oliver, Sr. and wife, Debbie of Gates, NC, Horace Ronald Oliver and wife, Sandy of Suffolk, VA; grandchildren, April N. Thompson and husband, Tim, Robbie Norfleet, Eric Norfleet, Brittney Norfleet, Brenan Oliver, John Oliver, Jr., Megan Oliver, Codi Oliver, Kaeli Oliver, Malia Oliver, Tyler Gyoker, Jeremy Joyner; sisters, Doris N. Bailey of Franklin, VA, Marianna Whitley and husband, Bobby of Smithfield, VA, Margaret N. Saunders of Suffolk, VA; brothers, William F. Norfleet and wife, Zada of Suffolk, VA, Abe Norfleet, Jr. and wife, Betty of Stoney Creek, VA.

Robert was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather to all who knew him as "Pops."

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Western Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Basil L. Ballard officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Tuesday night from 7-8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA and other times at the residence.
