Richard Dennis Thiede, 62, of Suffolk, VA passed away on August 23, 2008. A native of Pensacola, Florida, he was a veteran of the United States Navy. Richard retired as a power plant electrician in Shop 03 of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth. He was a member of Providence United Methodist Church where he served as past chairman of the parsonage committee and a member of the Methodist men. Richard was a member of Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge #178; a former Scout master for Troop #10 and a former E.M.T. with Windsor Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Richard is survived by his wife of 39 years, Peggy E. Thiede; a daughter and son-in-law, Shelley L. Joyner and Jonathan A. Joyner of Portsmouth, VA; a son and fiancée, Erik N. Thiede of Suffolk, VA and Andria Free of Yorktown, VA; a grandson, Jayce A. Joyner of Portsmouth, VA; mother and father, Harry H. Thiede and Frances Radcliff Thiede; a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy T. and Butch Range, of Fredericksburg, VA.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Providence United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lisa R. Blackmonson and Rev. F. Hank Teague officiating. Burial will follow at Albert G. Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Friends may join the family on Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, for visitation and Masonic rites and other times at the residence.
