Rhonda Duman
Jones
October 12, 1958 – August 22, 2018
Rhonda Duman Jones, 59, passed away August 22 nd after a short, but valiant battle with non-hodgkins lymphoma.
Rhonda was intelligent, independent, sincere and compassionate. An individual that should be emulated by all for her love of family, dedication to her profession and willingness to give far more than she ever expected to receive.
Rhonda graduated from Old Dominion University and earned a Master's Degree from James Madison University. She was employed as a speech pathologist and later as an administrator with the City of Suffolk Public School System. Rhonda served as Vice Principal of Mack Benn Elementary and as Principal of Robertson Elementary until its closing. She enjoyed the challenges and rewards of her profession and took pride in her students, their families and her staff. She was a leader that valued her coworkers and led by example. She was always willing to accept responsibility for the task at hand. During her thirty-three years in the school system she touched the lives of many in countless ways.
Rhonda had a special place in her heart for all creatures; especially dogs. She was President of the Suffolk Humane Society at the time of her passing and dedicated many hours to the accomplishment of their mission. She also volunteered with the Suffolk Education Foundation and the Portsmouth-Chesapeake Obedience Training Club.
Rhonda was a nurturing mother who instilled her values in her two sons. She was always there to support, advise and encourage them; always emphasizing the positive.
Rhonda was preceded in death by her father Melvin (Mike) and mother Natalie. She is survived by her sons; Justin (Jade), Morgan (Alex), and grandson Maddox. Her siblings; Michael (Fran), Leslie (Marilyn), Neil, and Rebecca (Mitch). She also leaves behind Terry Phelps who provided love and companionship in recent years. In addition, dear friend Eileen Walsh and a host of nephews, nieces and endearing extended relatives.
Rhonda enriched our lives and left us with many loving memories which we will always cherish. She had a positive effect on all she encountered. She may be gone from our lives, but never from our hearts.
The family will receive friends September 2 from 3 pm – 5:30 pm at Parr Funeral Home, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Suffolk Humane Society, 412 Kings Fork Road, Suffolk, Va. 23434. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com .
