Obituary

Redell Lawton Turner, 96, of Suffolk, VA passed away May 2, 2009, in Autumn Care Nursing Home. He was born in Isle Wight County, VA, the son of the late Augustus Allen Turner and Anna Elizabeth Rhodes. He was the last survivor of thirteen siblings. His wife of fifty- eight years, Mary Alice Braswell Turner, preceded him in death on February 6, 1991. He retired as a section foreman on the Seaboard Airline Railroad with forty-four years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church on N. Main St. His passions were gardening and tractor building.

Redell is survived by two daughters and son- in- law, Mary T. Franz, (Bill), of Edenton, NC, Shirley T. Claud and friend Anthony Pivey; four sons and daughter- in-laws, William "Billy" Turner, Sr. (Ina) of Suffolk, VA, Herbert A. Turner, Sr. (Carole) of Newport News, VA, Robert Earl Turner, Sr. (Ann) of Chesapeake, VA, J.D. Turner(Paula) of Jacksonville, Florida; sixteen grandchildren, twenty- nine great grandchildren, thirteen great- great grandchildren, and dear friends "Red" and Annie Maude Jones of Richmond, VA (formerly of Suffolk, VA).

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at 11am at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr. Suffolk, VA, with Rev. Charles W. Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Contributions may be made to the Make- a- Wish Foundation of Eastern Virginia at Suite 102, 406 Oakmears Cres. Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
