Rector "Rex" Hayner, 83, formerly of Virginia Beach, passed away January 3, 2008, in the comfort of his home. Born to a family of eight at his homestead in Big Creek - Chapmanville, WVA, he was the son of the late Charles and Ella Hainor.
Mr. Hayner served in the U.S. Army for several years, and during World War II. Upon moving to Virginia, he was a forklift mechanic for Norfolk International Terminals for many years until he retired from NIT at the age of 70.
He was a dedicated husband to his loving wife, Della Pack Hayner, for 62 years, until she passed in May of 2006. He was also predeceased by a son-in-law, Philip Roger Collins, whom he cherished as his best friend. He leaves to cherish his memory , a daughter, Gay Collins, of Suffolk, Virginia, formerly of Virginia Beach; a grand-daughter, Missy Tilton and husband Eric, of Suffolk, Virginia; a grandson, Phil Collins and wife Penny, of Placentia, California; three great-grandsons, Justin Tilton and Jake Tilton, of Suffolk, Virginia, and Matthew Collins, of Placentia, California; a sister, Lema Garrett of West Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, in the chapel at Parr Funeral Home, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA 23434 with a brief graveside service to follow at Princess Anne Memorial Gardens in Virginia Beach. Friends may join the family at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for visitation, and at the family home in Suffolk, after 7:30 p.m. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
