Obituary

Raymond "Buddy" Duval, age 72, of Butler, TN, passed away on April 24, 2024 at his residence. Buddy was born July 22, 1951 in North Tonawanda, NY to Louis and Jane (Antonelli) Duval. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Diane (Duck) Duval; brother, Joseph Duval; sister, Catherine Smolen; and grandson Brandon Bayens.

AS1(AW) Raymond Duval enlisted in the US Navy in 1972 during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Navy in 1994. During his career, he served aboard the USS Nassau during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. He was awarded the following awards during his career:

·         Combat Action Ribbon

·         Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon

·         Navy E Ribbon with E Device

·         Navy Good Conduct Medal with triple Bronze Star Device

·         National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star Device

·         Southwest Asia Service Medal with Double Star Device

·         Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon

·         Navy & Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon with Double Star Device

·         Saudi Arabia Medal for the Liberation of Kuwait

·         Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist Insignia

Following his military career, he was a US Navy contractor. Raymond continued to contribute to his community and loved volunteering with Mountain City VFW Post 6908. His selflessness and generosity touched the lives of countless individuals.

He enjoyed taking on projects with his friends, working on cars, boating, camping, fishing and working on heavy equipment.  He was a mechanical genius and known for being a Jack of All Trades.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Rebecca (Josh) Crews, Carla (Brandon) Gerringer, Dean (Michelle) Griggs, Michael Griggs, Barbara (Walter) Worrell, Brenda (David) Thomas; sisters Diana (James) VanCuran and Patricia Kupiec; brother, Michael (Barbara) Duval; nine grandchildren, Ashley, Brandi, Laura, Andrew, Trevor, Kyle, Ashlyn, Dylan and Madilyn; great grandchildren, Dayten, Hannah, Minverva, Jameson, Ella and Holland; great-great grandson Liam; several very special nieces and nephews and treasured friends including Darwin & Georgia Faulkner and Lisa Rothenberg.

Raymond Duval's legacy as a dedicated Navy veteran, beloved family member and friend will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.  He will be deeply missed and remembered with gratitude and honor.


The family will receive friends Monday, May 20, 2024 from 6 pm – 8 pm at Parr Funeral Home.  A service will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at 1 pm at Parr Funeral Home, followed by a private burial with military honors at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW.org) or the Horton Wreath Society.
