Rachel Gomer Jackson, 84, of Suffolk, VA passed away on September 27, 2011. A native of Nansemond County, Virginia, she is the daughter of the late Henry Palmer Gomer and Mary Virginia Fanny Gomer. She was a member of Holy Neck Christian Church. Rachel was the valedictorian of her graduating class at Whaleyville High School in 1944 and attended Elon College. She was a loving mother with a wonderful laugh and lived a life of steady perseverance.

She is survived by her sons; George Phil Jackson, Jr. of Chesapeake, and Peter Cobb Jackson and his wife, Crystal H. Jackson, of Suffolk. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Ian C. Jackson, Cole H. Jackson, Tanner R. Jackson and Luke T. Jackson; a sister, Lucille G. Price, also of Suffolk; and former husband, G.P. Jackson, Sr., of Portsmouth. The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Rachel's caregiver of eight years, Rhonda Pentecost.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Holly Lawn Cemetery with Reverend Drew Mountcastle officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the home of Peter and Crystal Jackson. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
