Phyllis Weaver (Powers) McKaughan, 84, went to be her Lord and Savior Saturday, March 26, 2022, surrounded by her three children Ginny McCoy, Tom Powers and Kelly Harcum (Tim).

Born on September 20, 1937, Phyllis was the daughter of the late Willie Ashburn and Helen Buck Weaver. Phyllis enjoyed working hard and the arts. She worked in the Suffolk City Public School system for 15 years where she enjoyed watching students meet and beat the challenges set before them. Phyllis had a passion for art, especially watercolors and pastels, and became an accomplished artist, drawing with the Suffolk Art League for many years.

Nothing was more important to her than her church, family and friends. She was a member of Nansemond River Baptist Church where she had many supportive friends. Phyllis loved her children, grandchildren Emily Asbell (Chris), Matthew Harcum (Cheryl) , and Cameron Harcum (Kashia) and great grandchildren Drew and Ashton Asbell. After losing her eyesight she looked forward to the phone calls and visits from her friends and family.

Phyllis is predeceased by her husbands, Frank F. Powers, Jr. of 31 years and Vann Campbell McKaughan of 20 years, as well as her brother, Stanley Weaver. In addition to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Phyllis is survived by brothers, Jimmy A. Weaver (Shirley) and Donnie Weaver (Rana) and sister in-law, Martha Ann Weaver.

Services will be held at Parr Funeral Home 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, Virginia on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Ryan Brice officiating. A time of visitation will be held after the service. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Suffolk Art League at P.O. Box 1086 Suffolk, VA 23439-1086.
