Paul Stephen Setnicky, 88, and A. Margretta "Gretta" Twaddell Setnicky, 92, left their home in Boiling Spring Lakes, N.C., on the morning of Monday, March 28, 2016, and were soon in an automobile accident that took both of their lives.

They passed away the same way that they lived, together, having spent more than 57 years happily married.

Paul was a son of the late Alexander and Mary Zahradnik Setnicky, and was predeceased by his siblings, Peter, Michael, Alex, Joseph and Earnestine. He was retired from John Hancock Life Insurance Company and was an U.S. Army World War II veteran and will fondly be remembered for his honesty and integrity.

Margretta was the daughter of the late John and Anna Johnson Twaddell, and was predeceased by her brothers, Edward and John. She earned her degree from Jefferson School of Nursing, Philadelphia, and later retired from nursing in the Suburban Hospital, Warrenville Heights, Ohio. She loved to use her green thumb at her home and garden and frequent their cottage on Holden Beach, N.C.

Surviving are a son, Charles S. Setnicky and wife, Nancy Bangley Setnicky, of Suffolk; a brother, John E. Setnicky; a sister, Mary Ann Setnicky Horrocks; grandchildren, Edward Stephen Setnicky and William Christopher Setnicky; step-grandchildren, William Jason Yost and Jonathan Louis Yost.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 4, 2016, in the Parr Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2016, in the Albert G. Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, with military honors.

The Setnickys were active in the Boiling Spring Lakes Fire and Rescue Department and request memorials be sent in their name to 3059 George II Hwy, Southport, NC 28461.
