Nellie "Betty"
Grady
July 19, 1934 – August 31, 2021
Nellie H. "Betty" Grady, 87, went home to be with the Lord on August 31, 2021. She was born in Isle of Wight County as the daughter of the late John Walter Holland and Ruby Nelms, and the beloved baby sister of William "Bud" Holland and Annie H. Turner. Betty was a long-time resident of Suffolk, VA where she spent many happy years with her late husband Jimmy Grady.
As a charter member of Wilroy Baptist Church, she enjoyed participating in her Sunday School class and various missions of the church to help spread joy through the community. She was a very talented seamstress who shared her talents amongst her community as often as possible. One of her favorite pastimes was watching various sporting events, especially figure skating and Duke basketball. Betty spent the last few years at Lake Prince Woods and was very appreciative of the wonderful care provided by all of the nurses and staff who she loved as much as her own family.
A caring and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Betty loved nothing more than spending time with her family. One of her greatest passions was making sure her family and everyone she met felt cared for and loved. Because of this, there are many people left behind to cherish her memory. This includes her daughters and sons-in-law Terri and Wayne Jones and Jackie and Scott Wood, her grandchildren Leigh Ann Jones, Grady Jones, and Samantha Wood, and her great-granddaughter Kaylee Jones. Her family also includes numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who she loved very much.
The visitation will be held at Parr Funeral Home in Suffolk, VA on Thursday September 2 nd , 2021 at 7pm. The graveside service will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery on September 3 rd , 2021 at 11am. The family will be gathering and receiving guests at their home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wilroy Baptist Church of Suffolk, VA.
