Obituary

Nancye Gray Allen Laine died January 24, 2010 at home. She was born December 23, 1937 in Farmville, Virginia and grew up in Isle of Wight County on the family farm near Collosse. Her family moved to Windsor in 1951. She graduated from Windsor High School where she played basketball and was a cheerleader. Nancye graduated from Longwood College with a degree in Home Economics and was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority.

She taught seventh grade at Chuckatuck in the 1960's before moving to John Yeates High School where she taught Home Economics until 1973 when her daughter was born.

Nancye was a stay at home mom for 12 years while expanding her degree to include elementary education. In 1985 she returned to teaching at Windsor Elementary School where she taught fifth grade and was joined there by her daughter who was also a teacher. She was named "Teacher of the Year" in 1999 and retired in 2003.

She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and treasurer of her Sunday School class for many years.

After retirement her main interests were gardening, cooking, and grandchildren although she loved to go fishing on nice days. The last few years she got great enjoyment from "teaching" her grandchildren afternoons after school and playing games with them. They were her therapy.

She was predeceased by her parents Floyd Grayson Allen and Cleo Coggin Allen. She is survived by her husband William E. Laine Jr., daughter Jennifer Leigh Laine Caterbone, son in law Joseph R Caterbone, grandchildren Rachel Gray Caterbone and Ryan Laine Caterbone, brother John Grayson Allen and his wife Patty.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 11:00 am at Trinity United Methodist Church, with Reverend Will Montgomery and Reverend Robert F. Cofield Jr. officiating, followed by a visitation in the Family Activities Center.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Trinity United Methodist Church Building Fund, 201 Cedar St, Smithfield, VA 23430, and The American Cancer Society, 4416 Expressway Dr, Virginia Beach, VA 23452 or a favorite charity.
