It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Nancy Martin Hedgepeth, who departed this life on July 28, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on August 4, 1943, in Portsmouth, Virginia, Nancy lived a life full of love, dedication, and joy until her peaceful passing in Suffolk, Virginia.
Nancy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who filled the lives of those around her with warmth and kindness. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Charles Shade Martin and Kathleen Adell Smithey Martin, and her cherished son, Richard Martin "Richie" Hedgepeth.
Nancy's heart and home were always open. Known for her nurturing spirit, she excelled as a substitute teacher in the Isle of Wight County and Franklin City Public Schools, as well as at Isle of Wight Academy, where she touched many young minds with her gentle wisdom and encouragement.
Her interests were as varied as they were passionate. Nancy took great pleasure in tending to her flower garden, delighting in the beauty of nature. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, creating memories through shared adventures while traveling across the globe. Whether shopping with her daughter, feeding the birds, playing a lively game of dominoes, or enjoying late-night Dairy Queen runs and early morning breakfasts at her home, Nancy's zest for life was infectious. She never met a stranger and welcomed everyone with open arms.
A woman of faith, Nancy was a dedicated member of Colosse Baptist Church, where she found solace and community. Above all, she was a proud member of the world's best mom and grandma club, a testament to her boundless love for her family. A proud breast cancer survivor, her greatest wish was to see her grandchildren grow up. God graciously answered her prayer, blessing her with many years of precious memories and the joy of watching them grow into the people they are today.
Nancy's legacy of love continues through her surviving family: her devoted husband of 65 years, Richard Thomas Hedgepeth; her loving daughter, Tonya Hedgepeth Stuck (George); her treasured grandchildren, Jason Stuck (Shannon), Jordan Stuck, Chandler Cobb (Kyle), and Jeremy Hedgepeth (Kristina). Nancy will also be missed by her beloved dog, Chico, who was always by her side.
The family invites friends and loved ones to join them in celebrating Nancy's life. A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2026, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory. Her funeral service will take place at 11:00 am on Monday, August 3, 2026, at the same location, with Pastor Martin Chappell officiating. Following the service, Nancy will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Nancy Martin Hedgepeth will be remembered for her unwavering love, her joyful spirit, and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of all who knew her.
