Obituary

Nalber "Nell" Lee Benham, 80, of Virginia Beach passed away January 13, 2014. She was born on March 31, 1933, the daughter of the late Henry and Lillie Briley Lee of Bear Grass, NC. She is also predeceased by her brother-in-law, Al Harrison; and sister-in-law, Brenda Lee. Mrs. Benham graduated from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC and began teaching high school physical education. She taught for a number of years before retiring in 1988. During her adult years she especially enjoyed sewing, bowling, tennis, golf, volleyball, and playing bridge. She was active in city recreational programs and coached "pee wee" soccer teams. She was a member of the St. Andrews United Methodist Church for more than 20 years.

Mrs. Benham is survived by her husband of 55 years, Fred G. Benham; son Gilbert T. Benham and wife, Jennifer of Hampton, VA; grandchildren, Natalie and Keagan; sisters, Ruby Lee Knox and husband, Curtis of Robersonville, NC, Faye Lee Lilley and husband, Daniel of Williamston, NC, Jearl Lee Harrison of Roper, NC, Sudie Lee Hardison and husband, Robert of New Bern, NC, Patsy Lee Price of Bear Grass, NC, and Jackie Lee Mobley and husband, Paul of Bear Grass, NC; brother, Berles Lee of Beaufort, NC; brother-in-law, Dr. Claude C. Benham and wife, Mary; sisters-in-law, Helen B. Masters and Cynthia B. Carson and husband, Ray; 26 nieces and nephews; 50 grandnieces and grandnephews; and 8 great nieces and nephews.

Burial will be private on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 3 p.m. at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 12:30 p.m. at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 717 Tucson Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. A reception will immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew's United Methodist Church.
