Obituary

Millard Townsend Winslow, 86, passed away March 2, 2017.  He was born in Hertford, NC the son of the late Ernest Calvin Winslow and Nina Alexanderia Rountree Winslow.  He was predeceased by his sisters and brothers, Stellar M. Winslow, Bettie W. Bunch, Preston C. Winslow, Louis T. Winslow, AND Jesse C. Winslow, Sr.   Millard was a United States Army veteran.   He later went on to work and then retire from VDOT and the City of Chesapeake.  He was a member of Up River Friends Meeting and attended Portsmouth First Friends Church where he was a greeter with an affectionate hug.  He was also a member of the City of Chesapeake Retirees Association and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #57.

Millard is survived by his sisters, Pleasant "Polly" W. McBride, Emily W. Powell; brothers, Marvin C. Winslow, and Ernest "Aleck" Winslow; stepson, Jerry Hancock; step grandchildren, LeAnne Hancock, Jeremy Hancock (Andrea), Justin Hancock (Erin); 4 great step grandchildren; and numerous special nieces and nephews.  Millard had an unbelievable love and care for his family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, community, and church family.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at Holly Lawn Cemetery with Rev. Kolbi Shartzer officiating.  Memorial donations may be made to the Up River Cemetery Fund, c/o Jesse Rountree, 553 Turnpike Rd., Belvidere, NC 27919.  Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
