Mildred Gayle Whitfield, 78, of Kill Devil Hills, NC passed away March 28, 2011. She was born in Virginia the daughter of the late Lena Moore Gayle and Russell Sage Gayle, Sr. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Joseph Dillard Whitfield, Sr. and her daughter, Kathy Holland. Mildred enjoyed her real estate career having retired from Hallmark Realty. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends especially at the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

Mildred is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Jim Pociluyko, Linda and W. Emory Duke, and Milly Adair; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph D. Whitfield, Jr. and Janet Whitfield; 12 grandchildren, Russell Pociluyko, Scotty Holland, Sheri Pociluyko, Ashley Glasco, Michael Whitfield, Britton Whitfield, Kristen Duke, Whitney Holland, Meagan Whitfield, Stephanie Crocker, Danielle Duke, Elizabeth Duke; 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy McDonald and Catherine Lanier; brother, Russell Sage Gayle, Jr.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 12 noon at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA 23434 with Rev. William Scott Holland officiating. A time of visitation will follow the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Poplar Spring Cemetery in Franklin, VA.
