Michael Wayne
Joslin
February 12, 1963 – October 21, 2025
Michael Wayne Joslin, 62 went to be with his Savior on October 21, 2025. Mike was born in Key West, FL and was predeceased by his parents, Ivan L. and Marjorie A. Joslin. Mike retired as a commercial waterman several years ago. He began his fishing career in Virginia Beach on the Chesapeake Bay. Soon after high school, Mike and a friend started Lynnhaven Fish Company. They built their own boat, "the Ruff Rider", a 42-ft deadrise in the backyard. He later sold it, but it is still being used in commercial fishing today. In the mid-1990's, Mike sold his interest in Lynnhaven Fish Company and moved his family to Suffolk where he began Nansemond River Seafood. He harvested blue crabs, rock fish, eels, peeler crabs, and other fish. He was also granted the only trapper's license in the area where he trapped otters and minks in the winter. Mike was a true waterman. He worked with the Virginia Institute of Marine Science on a study to quantify the number of juvenile flounder by-catch in the conventional crab pot. Based on the results, he designed and manufactured a device to be installed into a crab pot that served as a safe release for the juvenile flounder. It is still in use by many crabbers today. Mike loved the water, knew the water, respected the water and protected the water. Every day was a good day no matter the catch. He trusted God and had incredible faith He would always provide.
Mike married Carole on December 27, 1986 and God blessed them with 4 beautiful children, their spouses, and 9 grandchildren. Mike and Carole were members of Westminster Reformed Presbyterian Church, where Mike has served as a Deacon. Mike was reserved, but he had a big heart for other people. He was always looking for opportunities to bless others.
Mike loved baseball. He played as a young child and then coached many years at Bennetts Creek Little League. He always had a winning team. He loved the kids and the kids loved him. He not only wanted them to be better ball players, but prayed God would use him to instill good life lessons and moral character.
Mike was a great father. His work life and his home life were all about family. He taught his sons how to hunt, so they would learn patience. He taught them how to fish, so they would learn how to be resourceful. He taught his kids how to play ball, so they'd learn good sportsmanship. He taught them how to fix things, so they'd enjoy working with their hands. He supported everything they did and was at every event cheering them on.
Mike was a great husband. He and Carole were the best of friends. His dry wit was always so timely. He led gently and he led wholly.
In August (2019) Mike was involved in a fishing accident and broke his neck. This started his long journey of neurological issues. But with the help of his children, and a dear friend he was able to continue fishing for a few more years. However, his physical limitations got increasingly worse.
Mike is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Carole Jane Joslin; children (spouses), Michael Daniel Joslin (Kendall), Benjamin Wayne Joslin (Kara), Christine Jane Triplett (Hunter), and Jonathan Lee Joslin (Brooke); grandchildren, Rylee, Brynn, Hayden, Berkley, Rori, Marli, Andi, Murphi, and one on the way; and siblings (spouses), Beverly Nobles (Jim), Brian Joslin (Jan), Stephen Fitchett (Ruby), and Lessie Crosson (Randy); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may join the family for a time of visitation Monday night, October 27, from 6-8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory. A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Westminster Reformed Presbyterian Church. An interment service will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery.
