Michael Brian Coleman, aged 60, of Suffolk, Virginia, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026. Born on August 27, 1966, in Charlottesville, Virginia, Brian lived a life marked by dedication, love, and enthusiasm for all he held dear.

After high school, Brian served four years in the Army. He was stationed in South Korea and Fort Carson, Colorado before returning home. He was awarded multiple Army Commendation medals. He was extremely proud of his military service.

For over four decades, Brian devoted his career to Newport News Shipbuilding, where he first worked as a pipefitter, then in transportation before becoming a supervisor in the Transportation Department. His exceptional service and leadership were recognized with several Excellence in Action awards and two Model of Excellence awards. Brian's commitment to his work was paralleled only by the warmth he shared with colleagues and friends throughout his tenure at the shipyard.

Outside of his professional life, Brian found joy in the simple pleasures of the world. An avid fisherman, particularly enjoying bass fishing, he relished his time on the water. Whether it was boating or vacationing at Daytona Beach, Brian loved being near the ocean. He also enjoyed going to the movies. A lover of music, he often listened to the tunes of Jimmy Buffett and Luke Bryan. Brian also enjoyed playing games and playing cards, especially canasta with his in-laws. He enjoyed cooking and grilling on his deck watching football. He was the life of every party and enjoyed family gatherings.

A member of St. Mary of the Presentation Catholic Church, Brian's faith sustained him through a difficult illness. He never gave up hope and made plans that kept him motivated to keep fighting. He had a strong, kind spirit and a generous heart that touched all who knew him.

Brian is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence "Larry" Coleman and Barbara Allen, and his sister, Lisa Coleman Bradley. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Kathleen Koch Coleman; his brother, Greg Coleman, and sister-in-law, Tammy; brother-in-law, Tony Bradley; his aunts, Shirley Coleman Lively and Debbie Coleman Crickenberger, and her husband Wayne; numerous nieces and nephews; and his cherished cat, Frederick Barnabus Rambo Coleman.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Suffolk Humane Society, reflecting Brian's love for animals and his compassionate nature.

The family will be receiving friends from 6-8:00 pm at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday, September 25, 2026. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary of the Presentation Catholic Church, Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 11:00 am. Burial will be 2:00 pm, Friday, October 16, 2026 at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.

Brian's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him, and his legacy of kindness, generosity, and dedication will continue to inspire all.
