Obituary

Michael Calvin Brinkley, 69, of Chesapeake, VA went to be with Jesus on April 11, 2018. Born at Ft. Still, Oklahoma he was the son of the late Leon McCoy Brinkley and Eleanor Agnes Benton Brinkley. He was preceded in death by his stepson Mike Meeks and step-grandson Heath Jackson.

He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard and a member of the Lions Club. Mike was in the Corps of Cadets at Virginia Tech. He was employed for 30 years in the insurance industry with United Life Insurance, Life of Georgia, and Humana Insurance. Mike became a friend to many of his clients.

Mike was a member of Liberty Christian Fellowship. He was an avid sports enthusiast and loved watching basketball, football, tennis and golf. One of his greatest joys in life was spending time with his beloved wife Sandra and his family.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sandra Neathery Brinkley; daughter, Miranda Lynn Brinkley Foster (Justin); stepdaughter, Tracey Ancona (Mike); stepson, Todd Jackson (Jennifer); stepson, Louis Meeks; 8 grandchildren, Jase, Brinkley, Kalyn, Kayla, Anna, Madie, Noah and Matthew, and 3 great-grandchildren, Summer, Emmett and Hayden; sisters, Jenny B. Johnson (Sam); Vanessa B. Rodgers (Gary); brother, Leon M. Brinkley, Jr. (Betty); brother-in-law, Eddie Neathery; aunt, Martha "Sissy" Holland; and many nieces, nephews, cousins; and also Butch Holland, his cousin and best friend.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, April 15, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Liberty Spring Christian Church, 4213 Whaleyville Blvd., Suffolk, VA with Rev. Dr. Chris Surber and Pastor Howard Wilson, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, followed by a time of visitation in the church fellowship hall.

The family wishes to express appreciation to the doctors and nurses of the Sentara Norfolk Vascular ICU, for their love and expert care of Mike; and also the many prayer warriors that sustained the family during this time.
