Melvin Ellis Bradford's Obituary
Melvin Ellis Bradford, 86, of Virginia Beach, VA passed away August 29, 2014. He was the son of the late Mary and Chester Bradford.
"Brad" retired after 30 years in the Navy as a Communication Specialist. Spending time in Guam, California, Hawaii and Africa. He enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his family especially in the Outer Banks, N.C. He was an exceptional athlete and played football, basketball and was on the All Star Navy baseball team.
Brad met his wife Violet at the Naval Supply Center in Norfolk, Virginia. They were married 56 years.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Legare Grover; grandchildren Michelle Wood and husband James Wood, Nathaniel Grover and wife Maureen Grover, and Barton Grover; great grandchildren, Alexandra and Caroline Wood; adopted daughter Sheryl Strombos; sister Eva Christman; and brother, Chester L. Bradford.
A graveside service with military honors will be held Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Rd. Suffolk, VA 23434 with Pastor Brent Hobbs officiating. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com
