Mary Elizabeth Underwood Duke, Mama Duke, was a rare and precious gem.  She loved Jesus, her family, her church family, friends, neighbors, all children, her animals and her beloved dogs, Prissy, Annie, and Little Duke.  Mary had a kind, gentle and giving spirit.  Helping people and animals, she never knew a stranger.  She was a housewife who cared for her brother, husband, and six children and also fed anyone who sat at her table.  Caring for her farm animals, chickens, pigs, cats, goats, mules and her pony, Billy; reading her Bible and other books, and growing flowers were three of her favorite pastimes.  She enjoyed sitting under the grapevine with Guy listening to the birds and watching the deer at sunset.  She was a member of Calvary Baptist Missionary Church.  If she were here today she'd ask you, "Do you know Jesus?"  If not, please google John 3:16.

Mary was born in Suffolk, VA to the late Lloyd Carr Underwood, Sr. and Alice Snead Underwood.  She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Guy Alton Duke, Sr.; brother, Lloyd C. Underwood, Jr.; sons, Roger Albert Chipman, Jr. (Audrey), Guy A. Duke, Jr. (Bonnie), Samuel Ray Duke; and grandchild, Shannon Diane Chipman.  She is survived by her children, Glen David Chipman (Janet), Lucille D. Humphrey (Eddie, Sr.), John Carr Duke (Linda); 9 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 14 great great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Friday, October 15, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Cypress Chapel Christian Church Cemetery with Rev. Kenneth Bunch officiating.  Memorial donations may be made to the Suffolk Humane Society.  Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
