Obituary

"Well done, good and faithful servant." - Matthew 25:23

It is with heavy hearts and yet a firm hope in the resurrection that we announce the passing of our dear mother.  She entered into the presence of her Lord on September 4th, 2023 in her home.

She was born Mary Anne Elizabeth Odey at home on November 16, 1940, in the Chuckatuck area of Suffolk, VA, to the late Mary Bradshaw Joyner and Willie Curtis Odey.

Her life was a testament to her unwavering faith and the embodiment of Christian values. She found solace and strength in her relationship with God, consistently demonstrating compassion, forgiveness, and selflessness to all who knew her. Mary Anne was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church for more than thirty years. Her steadfast belief in the Lord was the cornerstone of our family, guiding us through challenges and rejoicing with us in blessings. Everywhere she went she shared the Good News and was bold in witnessing to people she'd never met. Many times she could be heard asking, "Do you know where you're going when you leave this world?"

Mary Anne retired from Flowers Baking Company and was affectionately known as "the bread lady" most of her adult life.

She is now rejoicing in Heaven with her parents, her beloved husband, James Allen Goodwin, her sisters Peggy Vann, Mildred Cisco and Debbie Greene and her brother Tommy Leggett.

Left to remember her are her children, sons Edwin Cordero (Brenda), Tony Cordero (Deena), David Cordero (Eileen) and daughters Dina Cordero and Angie Jones (Danny); her sister Frances Edwards, seven grandchildren, five great- grandchildren, with another on the way.  In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by step-children Buddy Goodwin (Angel) and Beth Williams (Curtis), and a host of nieces, nephews, and her cherished dog Dexter.

Her service will be Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory  and officiated by her grandson, Pastor Cody Allen Jones. A private entombment will be at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary Anne's name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, an organization she has supported for many years at www.stjude.org.

I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die." - John 11:25"
