On Tuesday, April 21st, 2009, a journey of ninety two years of life ended peacefully for Mary Boyce Gwaltney Wynne. Born in 1916, Mrs. Wynne was a 1939 graduate of The College of William & Mary and a retired elementary teacher from Isle of Wight County Schools. She also taught for 14 years in the Charlotte County Virginia School system. Her affiliations included membership in the DAR since 1942, as well as a member of Bethany Methodist Church and the Bethany Ladies Bible Class. Youngest daughter of the late Waverly Wallace Gwaltney and Elsie M. Gwaltney, Mrs. Wynne had two sisters, Anna G. Martin and Waverly G. Goodman, both predeceased. She was married to the late John Fleming Wynne for 53 years, and is survived by two children, John Boyce Wynne and Mary Wynne Copes Epling and her husband Kenneth J. Epling. Mrs. Wynne is also survived by two grandchildren, Rebecca C. Simpson and Kendall C. Kimball. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Anna Nicole Copes and Stephanie Renee Copes, Leonard Scott Dix, Skylar Dwayne Dix, Cheyenne Sierra Dix, Crystal Wynne Kimball, Cody Wessells Kimball, and one great-great grandchild, Michael Aiden Krusic.
Pallbearers are: Mr. William Barlow, Mr. Will Crocker, Mr. Charlie Spratley, Mr. Greg Seidel, Mr. Wynne Thomas, Mr. Tim Martin, Mr. Hayden Bayer, and Mr. Fred Turner.
The family extends it's sincere thanks and gratitude to the Isle of Wight County Volunteer Rescue Squad, the Isle of Wight Health Department, Heartland Hospice Care, Maryview Hospital, and Bon Secours Health Center and Emergency Room at Harbour View, for their professional support and compassionate care during our mother's long period of illness.
Visitation is on Saturday, April 25, 2009, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Wynne family residence. Services are at 2:00 p.m. under the direction of Robert Little, III at Parr Funeral Home, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, VA on Sunday, April 26, 2009. Mr. Thomas Martin, Mr. Marvin Trent, and Chaplain Richard Dinges will officiate and conduct the service. Burial will follow at Bethany Methodist Church Cemetery.
